Greetings all.
You've heard the enduring legends of the many battlefields throughout the world being among the most haunted places on earth. Much has been said about restless spirits, having died during military conflicts, being unable to release themselves from the etheric loop they are trapped in. A very sad thought, really. It seems the more intense and violent the battle, the more pronounced and enduring the haunting.
Many people have sworn to have seen and even have photographic evidence of spirits from ancient battlefields (here in the US, it is most often the infamous Gettysburg area where Civil War-era ghosts are said to remain), where brother pitted against brother brings the most unrelenting purlieu.
This ghostly tale, entitled Beneath the Fallen Green, we bring to you in our Fall 2026 issue of Autumn Brilliance, reveals a most poignant time in our recent history: it takes place in a deep and dark forest in the small village of HÜrttgen, Germany, during the latter days of World War II, and reveals the one-on-one conflict of an American soldier against a German soldier... sworn enemies of a bygone era.
But the question is, what happens in the end, when it's all over?
Written by Nashville writer and US Army veteran, Mark Greenbaum (who is also our magazine's awesome technical support guy), this tale is special and unique in that it is presented in a poetic form... it's guaranteed to send a shiver down your spine and, quite possibly, a tear to your eye.
The Fall 2026 issue of Autumn Brilliance will be available on Monday, September 7, 2026. A link to order your copy will be posted here, on the left side of the page - just click the magazine cover.
